FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. How do I ask for help?

When you reach out for help, it shows not only that you recognize the need for support but also that you have the courage to take that crucial first step. Everyone needs help at times, and in our work together, we will help you uncover your strengths and learn how to harness them to overcome the challenges you’re facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The answer lies in the level of professional support. While friends and family offer love and care, a mental health professional provides trained, expert guidance. We can help you approach your situation from a fresh perspective, teach you new skills, and listen without judgment or expectations. Counseling is also completely confidential, so you don’t have to worry about others knowing your personal business. Additionally, when sharing intense emotions with loved ones, there’s a risk that, once you start feeling better, you might distance yourself from them to avoid being reminded of this difficult time. With professional counseling, that concern is alleviated, allowing you to heal and maintain your relationships.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person will have different goals for counseling, the progress will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

How long will it take?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on the factors that are driving you to seek counseling, and your commitment.
